Dr. Thomas Meyer first blew us away as he dug into the heart of matter at the first Cafe Scientifique. Join us for February’s event as Dr. Meyer returns to give us updates on the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN Laboratory. He will discuss some of the early results, including the future of searches for the Higgs particle and other new Physics.

 

Dr. Meyer received his BA in Mathematics from Wesleyan University in 1965 and his Ph.D in Experimental High Energy Physics from Cornell University in 1971. He was a Research Associate at Argonne National Laboratory and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center before coming to Iowa State University. In 1978 he became an Associate Physicist in Ames Laboratory and advanced to Senior Physicist in 1987. From 1993 – 2010 Dr. Meyer served as an Adjunct Research Professor for Iowa State University. Dr. Meyer was Scientific Spokesman for a 37-person collaboration at CERN and then played important roles in a 500-person experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) and a 500-person experiment at the CERN Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. Most recently, he developed detector readout software for the 3000-person ATLAS experiment at the CERN Laboratory.
