BS Degree

For the undergraduate curriculum in mechanical engineering leading to the degree bachelor of science. This curriculum is accredited under the General Criteria and Mechanical Engineering Program Criteria by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org.

Before taking upper-level courses in your major, you need to fulfill several requirements set out by the College of Engineering. These are called your basic program requirements and are usually taken your first year. They include Engineering 101, Engineering 160, English 104 and 105, and others.

After completing these requirements with at least a 2.00 grade point average and cumulative ISU 2.00 grade point average, you can start taking 200-level and above courses in your major.

Program of Study

After you have satisfactorily completed courses in the basic sciences, mathematics, mechanics, and engineering fundamentals, you are eligible for admission to the professional program. Here you can elect, from several options, a specific path leading to a capstone or terminal design course.

Students are encouraged to use their technical and design electives to develop a deeper understanding in one of the three areas of the ME field. Sixteen credits in the humanities and social sciences provide mechanical engineering students a complete undergraduate education.
