Pranav Shrotriya, Virginia and William Binger Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering, was selected by Iowa State’s College of Engineering to receive the 2008 Young Engineering Faculty Research Award. Shrotriya’s research encompasses computational and experimental studies of the deformation and failure of materials at micron- and nanometer-length scales, including the relationship between local stress fields, surface chemical physics, and fracture processes. Applications of his work include the reliability of printed circuit boards, MEMS and medical devices, and DNA hybridization.
The award will be presented at the College of Engineering fall convocation on Wednesday, August 27, at 3:10 p.m. in the Alliant Energy-Lee Liu Auditorium in Howe Hall.
