Martin L. Culpepper, a 1995 graduate from the Iowa State University College of Engineering, has received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). Nominated by the National Science Foundation, Culpepper was recognized for his research in nanomanufacturing equipment and positioners. He was one of 57 PECASE recipients honored at the White House on June 13.
Culpepper, a native of Waterloo, Iowa, was a George Washington Carver Scholar at Iowa State from 1990 to 1995. After completing his BS in mechanical engineering, he attended MIT, where he earned his MS in 1997 and PhD in 2000. Culpepper is currently the Rockwell International Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of the Precisions Compliant Systems Laboratory at MIT.
Established in 1996, PECASE is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding scientists and engineers who are in the early stages of establishing their independent research careers.
